Summary: SpeakFlow processes your voice to provide pronunciation feedback. We do not sell your data. Audio is processed in real-time and not permanently stored on our servers.
1. Introduction
SpeakFlow ("we," "our," or "us") is operated by Sycamore Hill Studios. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the SpeakFlow mobile application ("App").
By using SpeakFlow, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Voice & Audio Data
- Speech recordings: When you tap the microphone button, your voice is streamed to Microsoft Azure Speech Services for real-time transcription and pronunciation assessment. Audio is processed in real-time and is not permanently stored on our servers.
- Transcriptions: The text transcription of your speech is stored locally on your device and used to generate AI responses and track your progress.
2.2 Usage Data
- Practice time and session duration
- Pronunciation scores and progress metrics
- Vocabulary words learned
- Conversation history (stored locally on your device)
- Subscription status
2.3 Account & Payment Data
- Subscription purchases are handled entirely by Google Play. We do not collect or store your payment information, credit card numbers, or billing address.
2.4 Device Information
- Device type and operating system version
- App version
- Language preferences
3. How We Use Your Information
- Provide the service: Process your speech for pronunciation scoring, generate AI conversation responses, and track your learning progress.
- Improve the experience: Analyze aggregated, anonymized usage patterns to improve lesson content and app features.
- Manage subscriptions: Verify your subscription status to provide appropriate access levels.
4. Third-Party Services
SpeakFlow uses the following third-party services to function:
- Microsoft Azure Speech Services: For speech-to-text transcription, pronunciation assessment, and text-to-speech audio generation. Microsoft Privacy Statement

- Google Play Billing: For processing subscription payments. Google Privacy Policy
Important: Azure OpenAI Service does not use your data to train or improve Microsoft's models. Your conversations are processed and not retained by Microsoft beyond the immediate API call.
5. Data Storage & Security
- Conversation history, vocabulary, and progress data are stored locally on your device using an encrypted database.
- Voice data is transmitted securely (TLS/SSL) to Azure services for real-time processing and is not permanently stored.
- We do not maintain user accounts or store personal data on external servers.
6. Data Retention
- Local data: Stored on your device until you uninstall the app or clear app data.
- Audio data: Processed in real-time by Azure Speech Services. Not retained after processing.
- Conversation text: Sent to Azure OpenAI for response generation during your session. Not retained by the service after the API call completes.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Delete your data: Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data. You can also clear app data from Android Settings.
- Opt out of voice processing: Simply do not tap the microphone button. You can still browse scenarios and vocabulary without using voice features.
- Cancel your subscription: Manage or cancel your subscription anytime through Google Play Store settings.
- Request information: Contact us to ask what data we process about you.
8. Children's Privacy
SpeakFlow is rated for Everyone and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through the app, please contact us and we will take steps to delete such information.
9. Permissions
SpeakFlow requests the following device permissions:
- Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO): Required for speech recognition and pronunciation assessment. Only active when you tap the microphone button.
- Internet (INTERNET): Required to communicate with Azure Speech and AI services.
- Network State (ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE): Used to check connectivity before making API calls.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
