Sycamore Hill Studios ("we," "our," or "us") operates the VoiceRead AI mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our App.

Information You Provide

• Documents and Text: When you import documents (PDF, EPUB, DOCX, TXT) or paste text into the App, the content is processed to generate audio playback. Document text is sent to our servers for text-to-speech synthesis and AI analysis (summaries, Q&A) only when you explicitly request these features.
• URLs: When you paste a URL, our servers fetch the article content for extraction. We do not store the URLs or extracted content on our servers beyond the duration of the request.
• Subscription Information: If you subscribe, payment processing is handled entirely by Google Play. We do not collect or store your payment information.

Information Collected Automatically

• Usage Data: We track daily playback duration and document counts locally on your device to enforce free tier limits and display reading statistics. This data is not transmitted to our servers.
• Crash Reports: We may collect anonymized crash reports to improve app stability.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To convert your text and documents into audio using Azure Neural Text-to-Speech
• To generate AI-powered summaries, key takeaways, and answers to your questions about documents using Azure OpenAI
• To extract article content from URLs you provide
• To process uploaded documents (PDF, EPUB, DOCX) and extract readable text
• To enforce usage limits for free tier users
• To improve the App's features and performance

3. Data Storage and Security

• Local Storage: Your documents, bookmarks, playback state, and reading statistics are stored locally on your device using an encrypted database.
• Server Processing: Document text is sent to Microsoft Azure servers (located in the United States) for text-to-speech synthesis and AI processing. Text is processed in real-time and is not permanently stored on our servers.
• Audio Cache: Generated audio files are cached locally on your device. You can clear this cache at any time from the Settings screen.

4. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services:

• Microsoft Azure Cognitive Services (Speech): For neural text-to-speech synthesis. Microsoft Privacy Statement

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information to third parties. Document content is sent to Microsoft Azure solely for the purpose of providing text-to-speech and AI features, and is processed in accordance with Microsoft's data processing agreements.

6. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us to have it removed.

7. Your Rights

• You can delete all your local data by uninstalling the App or clearing app data
• You can clear cached audio files from the Settings screen
• You can manage or cancel your subscription through Google Play
• You can request deletion of any server-side data by contacting us

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the App. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
